Caribbean

The Caribbean comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. These islands, called the West Indies, generally form island arcs that delineate the eastern and northern edges of the Caribbean Sea.

With year-round good weather and hundreds of islands to explore, the Caribbean offers something for almost everyone. Activities include diving, snorkelling and relaxing at one of many beaches, city visits and mountain trekking.

Caribbean landscape and map

Antigua and Barbuda are 2 islands that lie between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east-southeast of Puerto Rico, off the coast of South America. With few other natural resources, the islands have a pleasant climate and a multitude of white sand beaches that fosters tourism. Antigua in particular is famous for its many exclusive luxury resorts.

The Bahamas is an English-speaking country consisting of 29 islands, 661 cays, and 2,387 islets. This tropical island is a popular tourist destination. Several cruise lines operate private island retreats. There is an all natural seawater dolphin facility with Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and California Sea Lions located on Blue Lagoon Island, (Salt Cay), a private island retreat and tourist attraction 5 km (three miles) from Nassau, Bahamas.

The Dominican Republic boasts national parks, rugged terrains and Bay of Samaná, a beautiful bay often described as a "Paradise on Earth".

Jamaica offers activities like hiking, camping, snorkeling, horse back riding, backpacking, swimming, jet skiing, sleeping, visiting the Giddy House, drinking and swimming with dolphins. Music lovers can also visit Nine Mile where Bob Marley was born and now buried.

Trinidad and Tobago have diverse cultural and religious backgrounds which allow for many festivities and ceremonies throughout the year. The region is known for its Carnival- the most significant event on the islands' cultural and tourism calendar. In ‘True Caribbean’ style, these 2 vibrant twin island destinations will be buzzing with a calendar full of exciting events taking place in 2010.
