Hong Kong
Hong Kong, situated on China's south coast and enclosed by the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea, is renowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour as well as excellent shopping.
Contrary to popular thinking, Hong Kong is not just concrete towers and shopping malls. It has beautiful landscapes that include mountains, beaches and breathtaking cityscapes and hiking is the island's best kept secret. It is highly recommended for active travellers who want to escape the modern urban world and appreciate Hong Kong's natural scenery.
Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon peninsula, New Territories and outlying islands.
Kowloon The name originate from the nine dragons represented by eight peaks and a Chinese emperor: Kowloon Peak, Tung Shan, Tate's Cairn, Temple Hill, Unicorn Ridge, Lion Rock, Beacon Hill, Crow's Nest and Emperor Bing. It is home to the well known Nathan Road, also called the ‘Golden Mile’ because of the brightly lit, neon-decorated shops, hotels and restaurants. It also boasts Kowloon Park where you will find flamingos and assorted flora and fauna. In addition, you can enjoy stunning views of the coastline on the famous Star Ferry port ride from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island.
The New Territories offers tourists with attractions tracing the rich history and ecology of Hong Kong. There are many areas where you can see villages that have remained unchanged for centuries. There are also numerous landmarks and attractions in the district, such as Sha Tin Racecourse, Hong Kong Heritage Museum including many interactive exhibits and the Ten Thousand Buddhist Monastery, situated in the hills above Sha Tin.
